Power for Jobs
In 1998, Governor Pataki implemented the "Power for Jobs" program that provides economic development power allocations for businesses in New York State. Administered through the NY Power Authority, companies with a minimum monthly usage of 100,000 kw may qualify for a PFJ allocation that will significantly reduce their total electric power costs.
The program provides 450 megawatts of low-cost electricity for businesses that expand or remain in New York.
Technical services and capital financing help businesses identify and implement cost-effective, energy-efficient measures. Technical services provided include engineering feasibility studies, technical training in energy efficiency technologies, and engineering support of project financing proposals.
- Discounts are given to businesses that build new facilities, occupy vacant space, have an opportunity to relocate, access alternative energy sources, or move to or expand in designated areas that are economically distressed or have an underused utility infrastructure
- "Power for Jobs" energy cost savings average 25%, but will vary depending on customer usage and local delivery charges
